The Counter has been on my list for awhile. If you’ve read my food posts or know me personally, you realize how much the words “build your own” give me tremors of delight. Hence my excitement about The Counter, who gives patrons a form to design a custom-made burger.
I’m also a fan of interaction at restaurants, so the form was pretty exciting for me. However, I’m starting to reconsider the whole “build-your-own” movement, as I’m not the most creative in putting together flavors. Chefs who create menus are the experts, and I’m willing to trust them most times. Recognizing this, The Counter also has a number of “pre-built” choices available to burger lovers. But, boring ol’ me: I went with my standard turkey burger with grilled onions, cheese, and sauce.
My burger was fine, but not amazing. I’d be down to go again and be a little more adventurous with my burger building. What were amazing were their fries, served with a horseradish mayo that I never would have sampled if it weren’t given to me. I went with the “50-50” order of sweet potato and regular fries.
I took Kourtney along with me, who again “shook” it up (vanilla style) while I enjoyed (or it least tried to) an adult beverage (perhaps because they took a while bringing out my drink they poured in a few extra shots? Ordinarily, that would elate me to ridiculous levels, but since I was the driver, I’d been hoping for something sweet and watered down – I barely finished half).
Overall, a good experience. I must say that I enjoyed the place – excellent service and great ambience. A pretty sweet burger experience, indeed.
